Halloween is coming, and with that comes costumes. We want our children to have a blast on Halloween but there are so many times the fun is cut short due to costume malfunctions. Some common ones are those cute shoes that the kids have to wear other wise they are really not being that character. I think this falls mostly in the girls who for one night they can parade around being a princess in those adorable princess shoes. They love to twirl in front of any one who will watch, but about 3 blocks into trick or treating, their little feet hurt, and about 2 blocks after that our backs are screaming at us. Or how about those masks that the boys have to wear in order for them to be a scary monster or a storm trooper or what ever character they have to be that year. Soon the mask is off and there are very red irritations where the mask has been rubbing on the side of their face. Now they look like they are boys running around in a black dress or a headless storm trooper. There are so many secrets to help the do's and don'ts of making Halloween fun for the whole family. There is also a product called mole skin. It is like a soft band-aide that can be stuck to the areas that are irritating their feet. If that still does not work make sure there is a back up plan. The fit that will follow when they are told they can not wear the perfect princess shoes will have you visiting the chiropractor just so they will be happy. Meaning it will be piggy back rides all the way around town. Try making sneaker covers. Now it sounds hard but have the girls decorate them. Buy some white fabric and you can hot glue it around their sneakers and than give them those self sticking gems or you can hot glue those as well and some fabric markers. Now you know for sure they are wearing comfortable walking shoes and they have been designed by a princess. You can always cut some of the eyes out and just add some black paint around their eyes and no one will be able to tell. With the irritating parts, apply some Vaseline to those areas and bring it with you because it will wear off. The Vaseline forms a nice slippery area allowing the mask to move and not bother their faces any longer. Do their hair a few days before and have them jump around and shake their head every which way they want. We know their hair will not hold for ever but for at least 3 hours it has to look perfect and make sure to put a few pins in your pocket before leaving to go trick or treating just in case some do fall out. You are thinking that it will just be for a few hours what is the big deal. If there is a reaction and this paint is by their eyes, mouth and nose, now this irritant has direct access to their air way and a serious allergic reaction can occur. Be safe, you do not want your child to end up in the hospital because you did not want to make them unhappy. Halloween is a perfect time for people to think nothing of strangers driving around neighborhoods with lots of kids walking around. Okay four rules. Make sure you have a flash light with new batteries in them or a glow stick or both,if you can not be seen, how can a car see you. Most of all, make sure you have a buddy system. Do not walk around by your self. Children trust just about everyone. In force stranger danger now more than ever. If they do not know the person and there is not an older sibling over the age of 16 or a parent do not go into a house or a car. |
